Yoga, a contribution to peace

Josefa Martins2 min read

Peace begins in the hearts of human beings. From there it spreads to everyone nearby, whether physically or through emotional and mental attunement.

Little by little, Yoga practice works through negative emotions, stimulating and nurturing positive emotions of Love, beauty, calm, solidarity, creativity, harmony and a sense of Unity with the Cosmic Whole. It shifts the axis of analysis and therefore of action, being present in the whole and in each part with heightened clarity and a sharpened sensitivity. Action will therefore follow this new reality, seeking the common good, certain of increasing one's own well-being too.

More specifically: ásana increases awareness of the body as an open system, opening energy channels within us and stimulating an aesthetic sense of well-being, health and vitality; pranayama, through complete breathing controlled by mind and body, increases vital energy and helps distribute it to every cell of the body. It creates well-being and harmony, can slow the heart rate, soothes body and emotions and creates calm and inner peace. Concentration helps to direct energy and discipline the mind, spending less energy for higher-quality work done in less time; deep relaxation helps us centre on ourselves and on what is essential, and instead of reacting, we choose our own challenges, no longer wasting energy on outside challenges that, in most cases, have nothing to do with us.

Meditation leads us to discover the Light that we are. Peace, tolerance and love then settle naturally in the heart of each practitioner. Every Yoga practitioner who has found this great treasure will inspire others through their example, their presence, or simply the Light they radiate.

LIGHT, LOVE AND WISDOM in the heart of all BEINGS.
