Yoga and spiritual development

Josefa Martins2 min read

In other articles we talked about Yoga practice from the point of view of physical, emotional and mental development. Today we will talk about Yoga as a discipline of spiritual development.

From this perspective we are mainly interested in Meditation, and so we can say that Yoga is union with our Divine Spark, with that other dimension of our spirituality, if that is what we choose to call our Divine Dimension.

Yoga is also the journey (Marga) towards Samádhi, Enlightenment, the Self-Realisation of the BEING. And it is on this journey that we practise all the techniques of Yoga, focusing more on some or others according to the practitioner's stage. The different techniques work on different dimensions of the Human Being, from the densest to the most subtle, until the practitioner meets their own Spark, the Being. After that unique encounter, which will be repeated many times, nothing will ever be the same; the person has changed and will be ready to share the path with others.

Their practice will always be intense and committed, but now it is also one of sharing; they grow by helping their students grow. This is the path of personal mastery: to teach and to learn, to be humble and gentle, to be kind and to be firm. The more we share, the more we grow, and the more the best in us shows itself: the highest ethical values, more light, more love, more wisdom. The cells of the physical body gradually adapt to a higher vibration (vibrating in unconditional Love), creating health and well-being, balance and joy of living, peace and calm in the mind and in the heart. With a mind and emotions steady in universal love, everyone nearby is touched, even if only for a brief moment, opening horizons to what each person can do for themselves on this journey towards a higher level of consciousness.

Be, O traveller, Wise and Awake: find the Pure Light within you and, when you find it, share it.

I greet in Love all those who strive to improve themselves while learning in this life!

May Light, Love and Wisdom always grow. Practise Yoga!
