Today everyone, practitioners and non-practitioners alike, knows that Yoga has a positive effect on health. Through its technical disciplines, Yoga works every part of the body in a balanced way, from the physical to the emotional and the mental, creating positive mental states, an attitude of optimism and joy of living, and learning from every situation.
The practice of Ásana (the most physical side of Yoga) stimulates all the endocrine glands, regulating how they work. It creates a positive emotional state which in turn stimulates the immune system, building resistance to illness and building health. It regulates sleep, bringing normal, restful sleep, increasing the capacity for work and the quality of intellectual work. It helps to find creative solutions in new and complex situations.
However, Yoga aims to go much further than creating physical, emotional and mental health and well-being; this is only the foundation for a conscious evolution of every dimension of the human being. Without health, no one could even glimpse the expansion of consciousness that is open to all – truly all – Human Beings who make this choice.
Choose well, practise Yoga.
